PTC has announced the upcoming release of the latest version of ThingWorx, its industrial IoT (IIoT) platform. Designed to accelerate IIoT deployments across the enterprise value chain, ThingWorx 9.0 will offer new functionalities to help manufacturers create and implement scalable solutions tailored to business needs.
According to PTC, ThingWorx was the first IoT platform specifically designed for industrial applications. Since its launch, thousands of industrialists, whether in process or manufacturing industries, have used ThingWorx to optimize their processes, improve their manufacturing operations, and modernize their maintenance services.
ThingWorx, a platform that allows manufacturers to deploy industrial IoT solutions on a large scale, will be enriched with many new features such as, for example, improved scalability and availability.
The industrial IoT being at the heart of companies' digital transformation efforts, ThingWorx 9.0 has an optimized distributed architecture configuration that will significantly improve the horizontal scalability and availability of the platform. This improvement will strengthen ThingWorx's ability to interact with a multitude of connected devices, optimize data management and processing, and support a greater number of users for its applications. Additionally, this clustered configuration will further strengthen ThingWorx deployments to handle all of the critical operations, systems, services and resources that must remain highly available under all circumstances.
Ready-to-use modules and data transport format interoperability with Microsoft
Building on the platform's DNA as a benchmark tool for rapid application implementation, ThingWorx 9.0 will offer new modules out of the box. These building blocks are predefined configurations of connectors, business domain models, business rules, and user interface elements, which will simplify the implementation of the most critical industrial IoT use cases, such as supervision, digital work instructions and production order management.
PTC and Microsoft share the common desire to encourage the openness and interoperability of systems within the framework of industrial IoT. They both support the OPC UA industrial interoperability standard. The ThingWorx version 9.0 will ensure perfect integration with devices equipped with OPC UA interface. Microsoft has contributed with the OPC Foundation to the development of OPC UA Publisher, OPC UA Twin and OPC UA Global Discovery Server, among others, which deliver intelligent data in the cloud or at the edge. OPC UA enables the integration of the ThingWorx Kepware and Microsoft Azure connectivity solution with ThingWorx. OPC UA's standardized data structure simplifies the implementation of application solutions.
Analytics improvements
ThingWorx 9.0 will be equipped with an enhanced predictive analytics module at the edge (Edge) reducing data transmission costs, latency issues, improving forecast accuracy and thus increasing asset performance. According to PTC, "This is a significant benefit for manufacturers who rely on the information provided by the ThingWorx Analytics solution to help decision-making, optimize their operational processes and reduce downtime. . "
ThingWorx 9.0 will simplify large-scale industrial IoT deployment with enhancements to the Solution Central module. Administrators will have access to a wider range of self-service functions to deploy ThingWorx solutions, manage ThingWorx environments and enable greater collaboration among development teams. Integrated into ThingWorx 8.5, Solution Central has been adopted by hundreds of ThingWorx users and partners to deploy ThingWorx solutions throughout an organization.
“The launch of ThingWorx 9.0 will mark an important step forward in PTC's industrial IoT strategy ,” said Joe Biron, Divisional General Manager and Chief Technology Officer, IoT Segment at PTC. All the improvements we make to support the development of scalable solutions, provide enhanced analytics capabilities and compatibility with the OPC-UA standard are essential for our customers to continue to deploy their industrial IoT project at scale. of their entire organization. These improvements could not have come at a more opportune time: manufacturers are looking for new avenues to innovate and meet the challenges associated with COVID-19, such as remote supervision and maintenance ”.
ThingWorx 9.0 will be available this summer.
