According to a study by Berg Insight, the installed base in Europe of smart electricity meters is expected to grow at a rate of 19.4% per year between 2010 and 2016 to reach 130.5 million units at the end of this period. The market started in Northern Europe, is now developing in Southern Europe and is emerging in Eastern Europe.
Another study, by Pike Research and covering the global market, 535 million smart grids will have been installed in 2015 and 963 million in 2020. In terms of facilities per year, Pike Research estimates that 100 million units will be reached in 2015 and that there will be a decrease thereafter. There are large disparities from one geographic area to another. The peak of facilities will be reached in 2012 in North America, it will be in Asia/Pacific in 2015 and then will be around Europe in 2017.
