According to a study by Berg Insightthe installed base of smart electricity meters in Europe is expected to grow at a rate of 19.4 % per year between 2010 and 2016, reaching 130.5 million units by the end of this period. The market began in Northern Europe, is now expanding in Southern Europe and is emerging in Eastern Europe.
Another study, by Pike ResearcAccording to this study, 535 million smart grid meters will have been installed by 2015, and 963 million by 2020. In terms of the number of installations per year, Pike Research estimates that we'll reach 100 million units in 2015, with a decline thereafter. There are major disparities from one geographic zone to another. Installations will peak in North America in 2012, in Asia/Pacific in 2015, and in Europe in 2017.
