The famous HART protocol is universally used on process instruments (sensors and actuators) to convey digital parameter and diagnostic information on a two-wire analog link (which is used to power the instrument and transmit measurements in analog form). Almost 20 years after its launch, HART continues to benefit from improvements. There are five of them. It is now possible to transmit a good/bad indication of the condition of the instrument (Condensed Device Status Indicators), in accordance with Namur NE107 diagnostics. It is also possible to transmit new performance indicators (Key Performance Indicators, KPI) on the quality of wireless transmissions (Wireless HART), in accordance with the Namur NE124 standard. Other improvements include IP protocols, all-or-nothing equipment processing and infrared transmissions (to communicate with the cases without having to open them).
