The specialist in measurement and automation instrumentation celebrates its 60th anniversary in fine fettle: the family-owned company has just passed the 10,000-employee mark. In 2012 alone, more than 500 jobs were created worldwide.
A global network of companies, quality products and sound family foundations: 60 years after its foundation, measurement instrumentation specialist Endress+Hauser is still going strong. This success is due to the continuity of a carefully managed family business, whose fundamental principle is to satisfy the needs and requirements of its customers. "Serve first, win later" was one of the mottos of company founder Georg H Endress (1924-2008) - and it still applies today!
Headquartered in Switzerland, the company is currently the world leader in measurement and automation instrumentation, with products synonymous with precision and reliability. The independence and autonomy of the company, owned exclusively by the founder's family, have been enshrined in a charter and are to be preserved in the future. The fundamental values of the Endress+Hauser Group are also firmly anchored: a corporate culture built on trust and a sense of responsibility is a solid foundation for sustainable growth and technological innovation. This "Spirit of Endress+Hauser", instilled by the company's leaders, makes values such as humility, loyalty, commitment and fairness the foundation of the company's business.
From device to system
The last 60 years have left their mark on the Endress+Hauser Group - in a positive way: the vendor of measuring equipment has developed into a full-service supplier that helps its customers to operate their plants reliably, efficiently and ecologically throughout their entire life cycle. " Our strength is that we evolve with the marketsays CEO Klaus Endress, who is leading the company for the second generation. " We learn from our customers and strive to create exceptional and sustainable value for them."
Today, more than 40 sales companies and 70 agencies worldwide sell Endress+Hauser products, services and solutions, and production centers in 12 countries are responsible for manufacturing and development. Thanks to its global presence in various regions and industries, the Endress+Hauser Group is well prepared to cope with economic fluctuations. Lean management and a networked organization guarantee flexibility and responsiveness.
Almost to the day of the 60th anniversary, another symbolic milestone has been reached - the company now has over 10,000 employees. Almost 500 new jobs have been created worldwide in the last 12 months alone. Continuity plays a major role in the family business: for example, despite the financial and debt crisis in 2009, there were no redundancies - which enabled the company to quickly set a new sales record the following year as the economy began to recover.
Perspectives
With sales of 1.5 billion euros, 2011 was another record year for the Endress+Hauser Group - despite a strong Swiss franc and a sluggish European economy. " Bhile the market is currently extremely volatile, 2012 was an excellent year for ussays CEO Klaus Endress. " We are confident in our strengths and look to the future with optimism, while remaining vigilant. "With targeted acquisitions in biotechnology, gas analysis and energy management, Endress+Hauser has recently completed its product portfolio. With an equity ratio of more than 70 %, the company is largely independent of creditors and is ready to meet the challenges of the future.
Endress+Hauser from 1953 to today
It all started very quietly on a small scale: on February 1, 1953, the Swiss engineer Georg H. Endress and the German banker Ludwig Hauser founded their company in a backyard in Lörrach, Germany. Two years later, the first level measuring device was patented and these innovative instruments quickly made a name for themselves in the industry. By 1957, sales had exceeded one million Deutschmarks.
In the 60s and 70s, the company's fields of activity were expanded to include flow, temperature, pressure and analysis, with the construction and acquisition of new production centers for development and manufacturing. With a growing number of sales partners, Endress+Hauser gradually established itself on the European market first, then from 1970 on the Asian and American markets. When Ludwig Hauser died in 1975, the Endress family became the sole shareholder. At the time, the company had almost 1,000 employees. 15 years later, the workforce had grown to 4,000, with sales of 500 million Swiss francs.
With the advent of digital transmission technology in the 1990s, Endress+Hauser took an active part in various fieldbus initiatives. At the beginning of 1995, the company's founder handed over the management of the company to his second son Klaus Endress, who still manages the company today. In response to the challenges of globalization, Klaus Endress expanded the international production and sales network, while further developing the range of services (project planning, maintenance, calibration) and complete automation solutions (monitoring, control, system integration).
