At the request of an electric motor manufacturer, Syneo intervened to improve the metering process for heat dissipation thermal paste on wiper motors.

The thermal paste has a texture identical to plasticine, so it is difficult to dose and deposit in small quantities, here less than 1 gram, with precision and repeatability. The customer distributed thermal paste with a piston pump system which required heating of the material between 50 ° C and 70 ° C to fluidify it. The high piston pressure caused leaks and a loss of 10-20% of the product in the drums. In addition, this installation was difficult to keep in good working order.

The customer was looking for more reliable equipment, capable of maintaining a high dispensing rate, while guaranteeing repeatable dosing. After a feasibility test, Syneo proposed a dispensing system with a Viscotec MT-XS drum vacuum and a volumetric dosing pump. The dosing pump uses a worm screw system, without valve, which allows instant dosing of the product without heating, therefore an immediate start of the process without any other prior adjustment. The system works on demand. In addition, the product is sucked at the end of the dosage in the reverse direction to the removal, allowing a clean stop without burrs in the dosage.

The Viscotec drum vacuum is also fitted with an endless screw pump which pushes the product into the pipe at a pressure below 25 bars against 100 to 120 bars with conventional systems. Thanks to this technology, the pressure in the product transfer pipes to the pump is reduced, eliminating potential leaks. As it is a system which does not depend on the viscosity of the product, it is no longer necessary to heat it beforehand. Thus, the process is simplified and the thermal paste does not change its appearance, it does not dry. There is also no intermediate adjustment to be made depending on the weather conditions. The barrel bottoms are used entirely, without loss of product.

This solution offers a dispensing performance of 0.3 ml in 3.5 seconds with good repeatability and high precision, with an ideal CPK> 1.67.

The customer's problem has been resolved and the latter is satisfied: “When I started up on my two lines, no problem was found, either at start-up or in terms of quantity. We turned on the system, did a little purge and the first two doses were flawless. The integration is perfect, knowing that our product is very difficult to distribute. And above all, we have eliminated the heating pipes. ”The new system therefore fully meets the customer's initial requirements since it eliminates the heating of the product while eliminating curative maintenance, only preventive maintenance being now necessary.
