NIDays 2016 saw an influx of 1,088 French and international visitors. The event, which took place on March 10, was organized for the first time at the Palais des Congrès in Paris.
This slightly lower figure was due to a decline in international visitors, coupled with a major transport strike the day before NIDays. The number of French visitors continued, confirming the interest of engineers and scientists in France for the event. NIDays also brought together a number of international groups and leading companies who were able to take advantage of the 70 booths in the exhibition and participate in specialized roundtable discussions. Prestigious speakers, including NXP, PSA and Areva, were able to give their testimony at the plenary conferences.
Develop high-performance test systems for the world's largest particle accelerator
Adriaan Rijllart, Head of Measurement, Testing and Analysis at CERN, was the guest of honour for NIDays 2016. He returned to the technical challenges, particularly in terms of testing and measuring, of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
"At CERN, physicists and engineers have built the world's largest scientific instrument to study the fundamental particles of matter. It is the Large Hadron Collider, installed 100 meters underground. We have built test systems since the beginning of the LHC project to qualify the thousands of superconducting elements, including 35-ton magnets. My team also supports LabVIEW and PXI for all CERN users. »
Another key theme of this 2016 edition is the Industrial Internet of Things, as Eric Starkloff, Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing, explained at the morning plenary conference: "Weare talking about the Internet of Things, Industry 4.0 or cyber-physical systems, these are great opportunities for all, to create value within the companies involved and to develop innovative systems. These opportunities include adding connectivity to systems, optimizing the use of collected data, and implementing smarter systems. »
"It is indeed a necessity for NI customers and industry players to have smarter testing and measurement systems. NI has made it its mission for more than 20 years through its platform based on LabVIEW, TestStand and PXI hardware, to reduce time and test costs," added Richard Keromen, marketing director Mediterranean region and moderator of the plenary conference.
NIDays 2016 was also
- an exhibition of 70 stands, to present the complementary products and solutions proposed by NI's partners. This exhibition area included five NI poles dedicated to automatic testing and instrumentation, data acquisition and signal conditioning, on-board systems, services and teaching and research. New this year: a LAB Demo pole dedicated to Makers. Demonstrations were carried out to present the use of NI products live;
- A total of 44 conferences, plenary and thematic, dedicated to the Industrial Internet of Things, rapid prototyping, automatic testing, on-board systems, simulation and real-time closed loop testing and data acquisition. Also on the agenda are several sectoral conferences: aeronautics and defence, rail, automotive and energy;
- 14 hands-on sessions, including LabVIEW graphic programming, real-time testing and validation, data acquisition, control/control system design, software radio, on-board teaching systems, and automatic testing with PXI technology.
For the first time, visitors were also able to train on a practical open-access work area, to test products, hardware and software at their own pace.
