The CEA, a founding member of the Alliance Industrie du Futur, announces the creation of Isybot, a CEA spin-off dedicated to collaborative robotics. To enable the development of new solutions for the industry of the future, CEA and Isybot also announce the launch of their joint technological partnership.
Cobotics, or collaborative robotics, is one of the major challenges facing the factory of the future, at the crossroads of simulation, robotics and human assistance. As part of its "Advanced Manufacturing" program, the List, an institute of CEA Tech (the department in charge of technological research within the CEA), and accredited as an Institut Carnot, has been developing strong expertise in the field of interactive robotics for many years. Its innovative technologies have found applications (service robotics, teleoperation, etc.) in the energy and healthcare sectors, and more recently in the automotive, aeronautics, naval and agrifood industries.
Enhancing man-machine collaboration
To contribute to the growth of industrial cobotics, the CEA is announcing the creation of the start-up Isybot, which will exploit the most advanced actuation and control technologies developed by the List for cobotic applications. This research has given rise to a number of patents, now licensed to Isybot, and will be implemented in the start-up's cobotic solutions. Isybot follows on from the Sybot project, developed within the List and awarded the creation-development prize in 2015 at the iLab competition. The solution proposed by Isybot provides an effective response to the problems of collaboration between man and machine: the cobot enables tasks and space to be shared in complete safety for the operator, relieving him or her of repetitive tasks, preventing the onset of MSDs (musculoskeletal disorders), with greater efficiency and increased flexibility of industrial processes.
A partnership to serve companies
The List and Isybot also announced the launch of their technological partnership, with the ambition of offering solutions that are increasingly adapted to the needs of companies, thanks in particular to interactive simulation for safety and interactive programming. Isybot has developed its first industrial application, on interactive sanding, with GEBE2.
"For Isybot, this is an opportunity to leverage its ability to identify and respond to the various uses of its robots. The experiments and developments we will be carrying out with our industrial partners will enable us to gain greater visibility, while reinforcing our technological lead. says Yvan Measson, President of Isybot and former head of the cobotics laboratory at List.
Didier Barbarit, Director of GEBE2: " Our customers need to robotize their sanding processes, and "conventional" robotics are not always suitable, either because of a lack of flexibility, or because a human presence is still needed to guarantee quality. Isybot provides an interactive solution that relieves the operator and increases productivity, with an extremely simplified and intuitive programming mode. This collaborative robot will appeal to users who never imagined robotizing sanding.
