The new TomoScope measurement systems® S Plus have more than doubled the measuring volume of their predecessor, while retaining the same size. With unique specifications for the MPE E length deviation of (4 + L/75) µm and the MPE SD distance deviation of (2.5 + L/100) µm, the series also offers what is certainly the highest accuracy in its machine class.
The modular system has been extended. X-ray tubes with voltages from 130 kV to 240 kV, with transmission or reflection target, with or without focusing, can be integrated. With tube voltages up to 240 kV, the new TomoScope® S can be used for large, difficult-to-measure parts. Detectors range from 2 megapixels to 28 megapixels, with pixel sizes from 50 µm to 200 µm. The combination of large detectors and special tomography techniques, such as Raster Tomography or Half-Side Tomography, enable a wide measurement range of up to 650 mm. In addition, new operating modes such as laminography and OnTheFly eccentric tomography are available for the TomoScope series.® S.
The new machines achieve even higher measurement speeds. Thanks to the latest cone-beam artifact correction, fast, accurate measurements are possible with a short distance between X-ray tube and detector. The use of large, fast detectors means that a greater proportion of the radiation energy can be utilized. This increases measurement speed or, by improving the signal-to-noise ratio for the same measurement time, achieves greater accuracy. As with all Werth TomoScope® machines, measurement time can be further reduced by measuring several parts simultaneously.
With helical tomography, the object to be measured is moved continuously along the rotating axis as it rotates. The advantage is that all parts of the object to be measured are irradiated horizontally at least once. Thanks to this principle, there are no conical or annular beam artifacts, and systematic measurement errors are consequently lower.
What's more, the use of a transmission source enables high-resolution measurements to be carried out at high measurement speeds, since much smaller focal spots are generally available for the same power compared to reflection tubes. Due to the short distance between the X-ray tube and a large detector, a large proportion of the radiation energy is used at the same time. Measurements on several objects with up to fifteen parts can be carried out in a single measurement process. Cycle times of around 10 minutes can thus be achieved. The user's tasks in self-testing parts close to production are limited to loading the machine and selecting the measurement program.
