Artec 3D, world-renowned developer and manufacturer of professional 3D hardware and software, announces the release of Artec Studio 15, the latest version of its award-winning software. With its new scan-to-CAD capabilities, users can perform basic quality control and reverse engineering operations directly in Artec Studio 15, with improved color reproduction and texture transfers from one model to another.
Optimized autopilot, more advanced automatic alignment tools, next-generation texture registration, and project loading where each scan has its own dedicated processor, all aim to increase user productivity. The visually redesigned workspace, the creation of new personalized folders and the customizable interface let them adapt the software to their preferences.
According to Artec 3D, optimized algorithms ensure maximum accuracy and speed when scanning with Artec's portable, long-range and desktop 3D scanners. By calculating the most efficient scan path, the Micro scanner's Intelligent Scan mode scans the optimum amount of surface in the fewest number of images, delivering fully automated, ultra-high-resolution scans with the minimum of fuss.
New features for quality control
Quality control operations in Artec Studio are possible by aligning scans with imported CAD models, including STEP, IGES and X_T formats. Surface distance map comparisons and micrometer-accurate measurements of all 3D models created enable inconsistencies between a scan and a CAD model to be identified. Scans can also be adapted with CAD primitives, such as spheres, cones, planes and cylinders. For more complex processes and tools, users can export to any full-featured inspection software, such as Geomagic Control X.
After scanning, primitives can be used to extract key geometric data in CAD format for immediate use in Solidworks or other CAD software. In addition, Artec Studio 15's Precise Positioning tool enables users to position models in the coordinate system. Models can be exported in popular CAD formats for easy transition directly into Solidworks, Geomagic Design X and other CAD programs.
Vivid textures for digital special effects
Improved color reproduction and texture transfers from one model to another will serve artists specializing in digital special effects. The software removes all unwanted color data without manual intervention by the user. The intensity can be modified using a suppression level slider. This tool works in the same way as the reflection reduction tool. Transfer allows users to clone textures from existing models and transfer them to new models.
Artyom Yukhin, President and CEO of Artec 3D, comments: " The advances we have made with 3D scanning algorithms are helping us to make progress in terms of accuracy, speed and usability. Our numerous time-saving features for users of all skill levels. This year, scan-to-CAD features will boost productivity for users carrying out reverse engineering and inspection tasks. "
