Waygate Technologies, a Baker Hughes company, introduces Krautkrämer SpotVision, a new phased array ultrasonic solution for spot weld control.

Krautkrämer's SpotVision has been developed specifically to meet the requirements of spot weld testing in the automotive industry: By using the inspection device, for example on chassis parts during the manufacturing process, car manufacturers can reduce downtime while ensuring that their products meet high quality standards and that product safety is guaranteed. Krautkrämer's SpotVision solution combines a new phased array probe with state-of-the-art software and Krautkrämer's Mentor UT fault detector.

"For the development of Krautkrämer SpotVision, we worked closely with automotive manufacturers to ensure that the solution adapts to the requirements of their inspection processes, and that it offers exceptional inspection accuracy and repeatability. Thus, SpotVision not only meets today's inspection requirements, but is also prepared for tomorrow's, for a better and more productive workflow and safe quality products," says Weiwei Zhang, Director of Ultrasonic Product Management at Waygate Technologies in Huerth.

Among the features of Krautkrämer's SpotVision is the completely new design 2D phased array matrix probe. Its fluid-filled membrane adapts to irregular surfaces and complex spot weld geometry better than any other probe and ensures optimal acoustic coupling with the test sample. The flexible design of the probe head helps avoid false negative results, minimizing unnecessary changeover or calibration times. In combination with the new Total Focusing Method (TFM) image processing, higher resolution and measurement accuracy are achieved. The easy-to-handle probe operates at a frequency of 13 MHz and is supplied with an efficient network of 32 elements and a pitch of 1.25 mm.

The handheld instrument also features Mentor PC Live software, an intuitive and user-friendly interface that displays the data acquired by the instrument in real time. Krautkrämer SpotVision is designed for use with Krautkrämer's Mentor UT phased array fault detector, which guides the inspector through every step of instrument installation and is part of the solution. Customers who are already using a Mentor UT fault detector have the option to upgrade it. SpotVision can also be combined with other components of the Krautkrämer portfolio for seal inspection, such as the Krautkrämer Bond Scanner. Krautkrämer SpotVision is available now.
