Waygate Technologies, a Baker Hughes company, presents Krautkrämer SpotVision, a new ultrasonic phased array solution for spot weld inspection.
Krautkrämer's SpotVision has been developed specifically to meet the requirements of spot weld inspection in the automotive industry: by using the inspection device, for example on chassis parts during the manufacturing process, automotive manufacturers can reduce downtime while ensuring that their products meet high quality standards and product safety is guaranteed. Krautkrämer's SpotVision solution combines a new phased array probe with state-of-the-art software and Krautkrämer's Mentor UT flaw detector.
" In developing Krautkrämer SpotVision, we have worked closely with vehicle manufacturers to ensure that the solution meets the requirements of their inspection processes, and delivers outstanding inspection accuracy and repeatability. As a result, SpotVision not only meets today's inspection requirements, but is also prepared for those of tomorrow, for a better, more productive workflow and safe, quality products." says Weiwei Zhang, Director of Ultrasonic Product Management at Waygate Technologies in Huerth.
Krautkrämer's SpotVision features a completely new 2D phased array matrix probe. Its fluid-filled membrane adapts to irregular surfaces and the complex geometry of spot welds better than any other probe, ensuring optimum acoustic coupling with the sample under test. The flexible design of the probe head prevents false-negative results, minimizing unnecessary changeover or calibration times. Combined with the new Total Focusing Method (TFM) image processing, higher measurement resolution and accuracy are achieved. The easy-to-handle probe operates at a frequency of 13 MHz and is supplied with an efficient 32-element array and 1.25 mm pitch.
The portable instrument also features Mentor PC Live software, an intuitive, user-friendly interface that displays the data acquired by the instrument in real time. Krautkrämer SpotVision is designed for use with Krautkrämer's Mentor UT phased-array flaw detector, which guides the inspector through each stage of the instrument's installation as part of the solution. Customers already using a Mentor UT flaw detector can upgrade it. SpotVision can also be combined with other joint inspection components from the Krautkrämer portfolio, such as the Krautkrämer Bond Scanner. Krautkrämer SpotVision is available now.
