Carestream NDT's Head of Digital R&D Wins Prestigious Award at 2022 Stevie Awards for Women in Business
Recognized for her innovation efforts, Lynn La Pietra, Ph.D., head of digital research and development (R&D) in Carestream's Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) group, won a Silver Stevie Award for Most Innovative Woman of the Year – Technology at the 2022 Stevie Awards for Women in Business. Le Dr. La Pietra has been instrumental in developing products to detect problems in complex infrastructures across industries.
An innovation translator and one of the few women leaders in the non-destructive testing industry, Dr. La Pietra leverages cross-functional communication and collaboration to bring products to life, building on her team's core strengths.
"I am part of a group of very talented women with many exceptional credentials. Just being a finalist was a huge honor," said Ms. La Pietra. As businesswomen, we are aware that diversity of opinion can transform technology and industry."
Carestream NDT's revolutionary technology, its first large-format glass-free detector, the HPX-DR 3543 PE, exemplifies Dr. La Pietra's approach to collaboration. It has steered the development of a technology, originally designed for a medical device, towards non-destructive testing, a completely different industry.
The new generation glass-free detector is designed to last and be reliable in harsh environments. It is the culmination of a collaboration between Carestream NDT and its customers, who have leveraged technology to meet unique needs. It solves a problem: the glass used in a detection panel could shatter, leading to downtime and associated expense.
"With over 25 years of research experience, I have discovered that one person's innovation capabilities can be multiplied by partnering with another person, or better yet, a team – it is the power of collaboration that can give birth to great innovation," said Dr. La Pietra. I am so grateful and proud of my team, for their dedication and their spirit of multiplier innovation."
