Sylvain de Lescazes, President of the Institut de Soudure Group, and Claude Trink, President of PPE (Pôle de Plasturgie de l'Est), have signed an agreement between the two entities that strengthens the Institut de Soudure Group's foothold in the composites market.
This agreement enables the Institut de Soudure Group to extend its activities from metal materials to composite materials. The Group is thus positioning itself in a fast-growing market, particularly in the transport sector, whether aeronautical or automotive.
Thanks to its national and international coverage, and its portfolio of over 8,000 customers, this operation should make a major contribution to the Institut de Soudure Group's development in the composite materials sector. Its ambition is to eventually become a leader in the fields of multi-material assembly and associated NDT.
By integrating PPE's R&D and engineering activities into its scope, the Institut de Soudure Group has created its fourth industrial platform to develop assembly and control technologies for the benefit of manufacturers. The composite platform, which will enable the development of transformation processes for continuous-fiber composite materials, complements the assembly, mechanics & corrosion and industrial maintenance platforms.
Groupe Institut de Soudure and PPE have complementary activities, and have already been cooperating since 2007, both on European R&D projects and through their joint subsidiary Composite Integrity, created in 2010 and specializing in non-destructive testing of composite parts. The agreement signed enables the Institut de Soudure group to acquire full control of this subsidiary, which will be equipped with a mechanical testing and analysis laboratory for composite materials transferred from PPE. This laboratory is the subject of a substantial investment to upgrade its aeronautical certifications and acquire new chemical and mechanical characterization equipment. It will be operational in the coming weeks.
