As part of its annual program of technical days, the Collège français de Métrologie, in collaboration with CETIM, is offering a day on a topical and evolving subject: the measurement of surface conditions, to be held on June 5 in Paris.
Measuring surface finishes is essential to ensure the functionality of most mechanical parts. Specifying dimensions is not enough to ensure function and performance. Their surface condition must also be taken into account. For example, roughness has an impact not only on functional properties such as adhesion, lubrication and clamping, but also on aesthetic properties such as appearance and gloss.
The measurement of surface finish is constantly evolving, with a paradigm shift from 1D to 2D made possible by the democratization of non-contact measurement.
Bertrand Leroy, ISO-GPS Standard and Surface Texture Expert at PSA Groupe and Chairman of the French Surface Texture Standardization Committee, will review the fundamentals and aspects of standardization.
The influence of surface finish on functionality, and in particular on friction, will be presented in detail by Yanmin Chen from CETIM.
Then, three machine manufacturers (Mahr, Alicona and Bruker) will present contact and non-contact technologies, the instruments available today, and their context of use in each case. A special focus will be given to non-contact confocal chromatic measurement technology (Stil Sensors). Finally, a new gel contact measurement technology will be presented by CETIM's Romain Brault.
Registration is open for the day with CFM at a rate of 390 euros excluding VAT. Association members benefit from a 50 % discount on this rate.
