Joramco, a global MRO service provider, and Testia, an Airbus company, are working together to launch a new version of the SmartUE1 inspection tool.

Testia's SmartUE1 is the Swiss knife of non-destructive control inspectors (NDT). This wireless device, lightweight (2 kg) and running windows, offers Ultrasonic and Current Control functions from Foucault. It allows inspectors to travel lightly with all their tools included in one kit.

The SmartUE1 is one of the few tools on the market to combine ultrasonic and eddy current testing. In addition, six other modules are available to detect different types of indications such as delamination, detachment, fatigue cracking, absence of coating as well as to measure thickness, coatings and conductivity. It can also offer a remote assistance connection, putting the operator in the field in touch with a remote expert for collaboration.

An evolving brick for digital continuity and data traceability

SmartUE1 also saves inspectors time and effort by automating analysis and reporting. Applications can generate Word and Excel reports transparently, thus avoiding double entry and the risk of associated errors. Additionally, e-mail servers, enterprise resource planning systems, and maintenance information systems can be installed on the device to facilitate archiving and traceability. Finally, the tool can be upgraded remotely in order to stay up to date with the latest features.

In addition to being the daily tool of NDT inspectors, the SmartUE1 offers the ability to be configured for coating layer detection. This option allows anyone to perform a quick Go-NoGo evaluation without having to call in an expert.

A tailor-made device

The SmartUE1 has been specially designed for the aerospace industry for a variety of applications. It is already certified and referenced for most current aerospace applications (Airbus AITMs, NTMs, etc.) and can be used on mixed fleets.

The SmartUE1 goes further in supporting automation with key new features:

  • Ergonomic user interface
  • A wide range of frequencies
  • The philosophy of step-by-step inspection
  • Assisted calibration
  • Custom module Go / NoGo
  • Manual and / or automated mapping of the grid
  • Quick grid report with predefined statistics

"We are happy to extend our collaboration with Testia after having successfully used the smart kit (the Swiss army knife) and the thickness tool, these tools have played an important role in improving the quality of Joramco's services. by increasing their efficiency and inspection times, in addition to the automatically generated reports that help us make the right decisions quickly , ” said Mohammad Abu Hayyeh, director of component workshops at Joramco.

“We designed this tool as a 'combo', to give inspectors everything they need. The kit is customizable according to the customer's wishes, and a complete configuration can replace at least three other investments ” , emphasizes Guillaume Ithurralde, CTO of Testia.
