After the release in September 2019 of the first commercial version of TraiNDE UT, an updated version is now available. TraiNDE UT v1.1, developed by Exetende, improves the user experience.
TraiNDE UT is an innovative manual ultrasound control (UT) simulator that helps trainers teach this technique to operators. It reproduces the actual inspection conditions. Trainers benefit from educational tools through concrete examples, in order to transmit information in a clear and visual way. Real-time displays and sensor manipulation place the operator under realistic inspection conditions.
TraiNDE UT is designed for training centres, companies with internal training and/or qualification needs, or universities. The various exercises proposed cover the skills that an UT operator must acquire before taking a certification exam: detection, sizing and characterization. Exercises are customizable thanks to the ability to turn educational tools on or off based on the progress of the trainees. Dedicated blocks can be set up.
The operator manipulates a dummy probe on a virtual mock-up. The position and orientation of the probe are located according to the operator's gestures on the virtual mock-up, and the corresponding signal is displayed in real time on the virtual UT device. TraiNDE UT works on a consumer laptop (i5 or equivalent CPU with 8GB of RAM) and two screens.
The digital device contains the classic features of conventional devices on the market: gain adjustment, calibration, doors, echodynamics, DAC/TCG, memorization, etc. Operators can therefore easily switch from TraiNDE UT to a real device while applying the same methodology. The cross-sectional view shows what is often not intuitive for operators: how to interpret the signal in the volume of the part. The area coverage tool records the probe's trajectory, to verify the operator's ability to control the specified area.
TraiNDE UT v1.1 improves the user experience, especially for managing touch interactions with the virtual mock-up screen. Like what:
- No need to ask if the probe is properly detected by displaying a halo,
- The probe is detected even if the touch screen is otherwise touched,
- Creating multiple lines on the virtual mock-up while scanning the probe and checking the signals.
