Je suis Charlie.
Why is a trade press like ours also Charlie?
Because the press is a story about men and women. As human beings, we cannot remain without reaction and emotion to what happened yesterday. We are affected.
The trade press is no different. The professional press is the press. And it was our colleagues who were targeted, attacked and shot yesterday.
We join the movements of solidarity and refusal of the expression of its freedom. We endorse the text signed by the main professional organizations, which is reproduced below.
The press publishing community is shocked by the extremely cowardly and serious attack perpetrated against its colleague "Charlie Hebdo". The entire publishing community expresses its deepest indignation and emotion, and wishes to express its profound solidarity with the "Charlie Hebdo" teams, and its support for the victims and their families. Today's terrorist attack marks a new stage in the escalation of violence and terror. It is the most serious attack France has suffered in decades. By attacking a newsroom, the perpetrators of this particularly heinous act have targeted the freedom of the press. They are attacking freedom of expression and democracy, fundamental republican values shared by all. The honor of the publishing community is to affirm more than ever its solidarity with its friends at "Charlie Hebdo" in defense and illustration of freedom of the press. It is also to declare that it will never give in to threats and intimidation against the intangible principles of freedom of expression. The editors and staff of the French press send their most sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims, and to all the employees of "Charlie Hebdo".
