Measurement tool manufacturer and test software editor Keysight Technologies has announced the acquisition of Eggplant, a specialist in digital automation intelligence.
Eggplant is a software test automation platform provider that uses artificial intelligence (AI) and analytics to automate test creation and execution. Eggplant's digital automation platform can test any technology on any device, operating system or browser, at any layer, from user interface (UI) to application programming interfaces (API) to database.
With today's digital revolution, the content and value of software has grown exponentially. Intelligent, interconnected products are made possible by millions of lines of code. Companies need to accelerate their digital transformation to remain competitive and relevant, while continuing to support legacy platforms. The ever-increasing scale and scope of testing required for digital products increases complexity and therefore time-to-market. By using artificial intelligence and analytics to automate testing, Eggplant helps improve the speed of software application development and enhance quality, resulting in competitive advantage and differentiation. The company's customers span a wide range of sectors, overlapping Keysight's existing customer base while expanding software testing opportunities to new end markets.
The combination of Keysight and Eggplant brings together two complementary companies to create an innovative force in the market for automated software testing across physical and protocol layers, and in application layers. The acquisition enables two-way leverage of measurement technologies between the two companies, resulting in increased solution differentiation in the broader offering.
"As a recognized leader and trusted advisor in Layer 1-7 design and test, Keysight is delighted to add Eggplant's test capabilities for the software application layer, which aligns with our strategy to develop our first-to-market software-centric solutions.said Ron Nersesian, President and CEO of Keysight. We are delighted to welcome the Eggplant team to the Keysight family and look forward to working together in the growing market for intelligent software testing with differentiated software-as-a-service technologies."
"By joining forces with Keysight, Eggplant is able to evolve its intelligent automation platform and reach more companies worldwide." said Dr John Bates, CEO of Eggplant. We share a common vision to accelerate innovation, and together we will be able to help customers in their digital transformation process. We're proud of what we've achieved thanks to the contributions of our employees and partners, and we're excited to begin this next chapter."
The transaction is valued at US$330 million. Eggplant reported 2019 sales of $38 million, and its CEO, John Bates, will join Keysight's management team, reporting to Soon Chai Gooi, President of Keysight Technologies' Electronic Industrial Solutions Group.
