EMV 2023: Rohde & Schwarz's new isotropic antenna measures radio emissions up to 8 GHz and can thus detect signals in the Wi-Fi 6E spectrum and the new 5G bands
At the EMV trade show in Stuttgart, Rohde & Schwarz will be presenting its new R&S TSEMF-B2E series isotropic antenna for use with the TS-EMF family of measurement systems. This new antenna, which covers a frequency range from 700 MHz to 8 GHz, makes it easy to carry out a precise inventory of RF emissions at a site, including those relating to new radio services. Combined with Rohde & Schwarz spectrum analyzers, the R&S TS-EMF measurement system can also detect high-frequency electromagnetic fields in the environment.
In conjunction with portable spectrum analyzers, isotropic antennas connected to the R&S TS-EMF measurement system enable frequency-selective measurement of RF emissions. This tried-and-tested measurement method simplifies measurements of electromagnetic compatibility with the environment, since the isotropic antenna performs measurements in all directions and polarizations.
Until now, isotropic antennas were only required to cover a frequency band up to 6 GHz to ensure detection of standard radio applications. New radio services such as Wi-Fi 6E and the new 5G bands (n96, n102 and n104) now require them to cover frequency bands up to 7.125 GHz. The new R&S TSEMF-B2E antenna, for use with the TS-EMF measurement system, can now easily carry out measurements in these new frequency bands, since it has a frequency range extending from 700 MHz to 8 GHz.
Combined with portable spectrum analyzers from the R&S FPH or R&S FSH ranges, the three antennas designed for the R&S TS-EMF measurement system now cover the entire frequency range from 9 kHz to 8 GHz. Thanks to their option for measuring electromagnetic fields in the environment, these analyzers can be used to carry out automatic test campaigns on site and create the corresponding test report. These reports ensure that transmitting systems comply with the required limits, and provide proof of compliance for third-party organizations. Higher frequency signals (up to 44 GHz) can also be measured with the portable analyzer and portable directional antennas such as those in the R&S HE800-PA range.
Rohde & Schwarz will be presenting this new isotropic antenna from the R&S TSEMF-B2E series in conjunction with the R&S FPH portable spectrum analyzer at Stand 615 in Hall 2 of the EMV trade fair, which takes place in Stuttgart from March 28 to 30, 2023.
