Jean-Marc Aublant, European Relations and Standardization Delegate to the General Manager of the LNE (Laboratoire National de Métrologie et d'Essais), was elected chairman of the TC352 technical committee on February 24. CEN (European Committee for Standardization), set up to develop standards for nanotechnologies. Jean-Marc Aublant is in familiar territory, having been a member of the "Nanotechnologies" standardization group since its creation. He was also a member of the "Strategy Group" responsible for defining a standardization work program for the European Commission.
The standardization committee, made up of some forty members representing ten countries, is working in three areas:
- metrology, with the development of measurement and characterization protocols,
- prevention and protection of the population and the environment against exposure to nanomaterials and nanoparticles,
- an industrial focus aimed at developing the "product" specification standards needed by manufacturers, importers and users of nano-manufactured products.
The program for the next three years is particularly busy, with the aim of publishing 45 normative documents, 29 of which will be dealt with by these three working groups.
This appointment is a recognition of the quality of the work of the LNE in nanotechnology. It is one of the leading research organizations in this field, as demonstrated by its participation in a number of European research programs, including the measurement of nanomagnetic materials (Nanospin), the development of roughness standards (Nanoref), and the study of the impact of nanoparticles on fire behavior (Nanofeu), the determination of the health effects of airborne nanoparticles (Nanoaerosols), the development of biosensors to track the behavior of molecules over time, for patient monitoring or water surveillance purposes, and the preparation of a nano-object characterization platform at its Trappes site.
Remember that the LNEEPIC (Etablissement Public à Caractère Industriel et Commercial - Public Industrial and Commercial Establishment), with 790 employees, offers its expertise to all economic players involved in product quality and safety. It has 5 core businesses: Research, Calibration and Metrology Consulting, Testing and Analysis, Certification and Training.
