Sofradirmanufacturer of infrared detectors for military, space and industrial applications, and theOnerathe French aerospace research center, have just presented a new infrared detector incorporating panoramic optics (Fisheye 360° lens) at the SPIE show, held in Orlando from April 26 to 28.
The Fisheye optics integrated into Sofradir's infrared detectors will save space in anti-missile systems by reducing the number of lenses used, thereby improving optical transmission and hence sensitivity. Indeed, this new infrared detector based on Sofradir's MCT (Mercury Telluride Cadmium) technology features a single lens that provides a 360° image, unlike other systems that use several optical elements to generate a 360° view. The integration of a 360° lens in the infrared detector improves the overall image quality of anti-missile systems.
