The British group Spectris has just taken control of American Omega Engineeringspecializes in physical (temperature, flow, pressure, level) and mechanical (force, displacement) measurement instruments, data acquisition, small process controllers and heating systems for process applications.
This operation confirms that Spectris is with Sweden's Hexagon Metrology is one of Europe's leading specialist measurement groups. Over the last ten years or so, it has made a number of acquisitions, and its portfolio now includes brands in materials analysis (Mavern Insturments, PANalytical, Particule Measurement Systems), mechanical measurements (Brüel & Kjaer, HBM), online process measurement (Brüel & Kjaer Vibro, Beta LaserMike, BTG, NDC Infrared Engineering, Servomex, IRM) and industrial control (Micro Scan, Red Lion). Spectris employs 6,400 people and has offices in over 30 countries.
The buyback of Omega Engineering for 475 M$ is far-reaching. It will enable the company not only to expand its catalog in its various activities, but also to considerably strengthen its position on the other side of the Atlantic. What's more, with profits of 40 M$ on sales of 168 M$ and a workforce of 700, the company is in good health...
