At the 7th edition of the workshop on "Analysis of dynamic measurements" organized by the LNE Last month in Paris, European metrology laboratories and industrialists discussed methods for assessing and improving the quality of dynamic measurements. This type of measurement potentially concerns a wide range of applications, since it seems relevant and useful to be able to measure a quantity that varies during measurement (for example, measuring the forces exerted during a crash test). However, the sensors used to carry out these measurements are usually calibrated under static conditions, which can significantly affect the reliability of the measurements and the associated uncertainties.
Discussions focused on pressure and force transducers. The full program and presentations can be found on the French metrology website. (https://www.french-metrology.com/workshop/dynamic-measurement-workshop.asp)
On the other hand, LNE is taking part in the European research project (JRP) on the traceability of dynamic measurements for mechanical quantities (https://www.ptb.de/emrp/ind09-home.html).
One of the aims of this project is to set up a dynamic force transducer calibration procedure that can initially be used by primary calibration laboratories, and later in another form by industry. The teams at LNE are working in particular on the development of a calibration bench and the associated method for calculating uncertainty.
