The Swedish group Hexagonwhich is best known for its dimensional metrology and geolocation activities, ended 2012 with sales of €2.38 billion, up 5 % on 2011. Net income, at €357.4 million, was up 20 %. The Group stands out for its unbridled external growth policy. In 2012, it invested €70.4m in the following companies in particular MicroSurvey Software (Canada) and Lasertopo (Belgium) in January, Visava Oy (Finland) in April, my Virtual Reality Software AS (Norway) in May, Sematec (France) in September, Geosystems Kazakhstan in October, GTA Geoinformatik (Germany) and New River Kinematics (USA) in December. Most of these are small companies, and the group is now relying on its own strengths: it invested €255 million in R&D in 2012, which should result in a significant renewal of the offering this year, and therefore good prospects in terms of sales, announced Ola Rollén, CEO. Mr. Rollén adds that Hexagon is less subject to the vagaries of the economic climate than in the past, as a good part of sales now come from software revenues (upgrades, in particular).
Hexagon currently employs 13,750 people and has three main activities: metrology (30.3 %) of sales, geolocation (33.3 %) and technology (35.5 %). This last activity is rather disparate, since it includes antennas for geolocation applications, sub-assemblies for satellite navigation systems, engineering and data analysis software, particularly for geolocation (brand names Intergraph and Sisgraph).
Hexagon has a worldwide presence, with 41 % of sales in Europe and the Middle East, 31.2 % in America and 27 % in Asia.
