Pneumatic technology offers extremely accurate results in dimensional measurement applications. The new Hommel-Etammic TPE200 pneumatic-electronic converter, designed by Jenoptik's Industrial Metrology Division, considerably extends the range of applications for this measurement technology.
Pneumatic metrology offers a number of advantages over other measuring systems: highly accurate measurements, excellent repeatability and a non-contact process that keeps the part intact during measurement. What's more, the fact that blow measurement is not affected by any impurities on the part makes it the ideal technology for industrial measurements.
Pneumatic technology can be used throughout the entire machining process, from initial machining to finishing. Thanks to Jenoptik's new Hommel-Etammic TPE200 measuring transducer, combined with Hommel-Etamic measuring devices, blow-molding measurement achieves a level of performance unmatched to date.
The combination of the TPE 200 converter and a Hommel-Etammic pneumatic measuring device (pad, ring, etc.) enables you to read the variation in pressure between the air leaving the nozzle of the measuring device and the surface of the part to be inspected. When the distance between the nozzle and the part changes, so does the pressure. The Hommel-Etammic TPE200 converter detects this pressure difference and generates a digital measurement value. The converter is the heart of pneumatic measurement.
The new Hommel-Etammic TPE 200 pneumatic-electronic converter combines very high measuring speed with particularly wide measuring ranges (up to 800 µm), enabling new applications (such as profile recording).
The Hommel-Etammic TPE200 converter is barely larger than a matchbox. Its compact yet rugged design enables the converter to be integrated as close as possible to the measuring element, thus improving response times and accuracy. Conversion to CAN OPEN and CAN bus signals takes place directly in the TPE200, simplifying integration into a customer network and eliminating any risk of interference.
The TPE 200 can be configured to suit the application and the associated measuring device. Standard measurement ranges extend from 40 µm (+/- 20 µm) to an unrivalled 800 µm (+/- 400 µm).
Thanks to its design, the Hommel-Etammic TPE200 converter considerably reduces response time (the time required before a pressure change is detected). For this reason, the converter is ideal for dynamic measurement applications, particularly in engine block barrel lapping operations, centerless grinding or final inspection machines.
