Olivier Peyrat, Managing Director of the Afnor Group, will represent France on the Board of Directors of the international standards organization ISO. He previously held the position of Vice President Finance at the Geneva-based body from 2013 until the end of 2016.
Olivier Peyrat's co-option to the ISO Council is a continuation of his work to promote voluntary standardization at national, European and international level. He most recently held the position of ISO Vice-President Finance from 2013 to 2016. He will now represent France on the ISO Council, whose role includes defining an international standardization strategy and overseeing its implementation.
Founded in 1947, ISO today has 163 members, all national standards bodies. Its mission is to facilitate the international coordination and unification of voluntary standards developed at national level. France, via AFNOR, is a permanent member of the ISO Council, alongside the USA (ANSI), Japan (JQA), the UK (BSI), Germany (DIN) and China (SAC).
Ingénieur en chef des Mines and a graduate in business administration, Olivier Peyrat began his career in 1984 at the Ile-de-France regional directorate for industry and research. In 1989, he joined the French Association for Quality Assurance (AFAQ), becoming its Managing Director in 1993. Technical advisor to the French Minister of Industry in 1995 and 1996, he was appointed Chairman of the Board of Afaq Ascert in 1997.
In 2003, he became head of the Afnor Group, a position he still holds alongside his responsibilities at ISO and CEN, the European standards committee.
