Intelligent in-line spectrometers strengthen process analysis instrumentation portfolio
Endress+Hauser is expanding its portfolio of products, solutions and services in the field of analytical process measurement. The Group has acquired Blue Ocean Nova AG, a manufacturer of innovative online spectrometers for monitoring parameters important for process quality. The 15 employees of the company located in Aalen, Germany, will be retained.
Blue Ocean Nova will operate under the Endress+Hauser Competence Center for Liquid Analysis based in Gerlingen, Germany. "The intelligent process sensors developed by Blue Ocean Nova will enhance our offering in the field of analytical process measurement, adding a strategic building block," says Dr. Manfred Jagiella, Managing Director of Endress+Hauser Conducta GmbH+Co. KG. As a member of the Group's Board of Directors, he is also responsible for the analysis sector.
Innovative concept
The process sensors developed by Blue Ocean Nova cover the UV-VIS, NIR and MIR domains, which are important for optical spectroscopy, for the on-line analysis of liquids, gases and solids. The innovative technology allows the spectrometer to be integrated directly into the measurement probe, even in areas with explosive atmospheres. In addition, the sensors can be cleaned automatically and easily integrated into digital control systems.
Blue Ocean Nova's systems are used in the food, oil and gas, chemical and life science industries for applications such as concentration and moisture measurements, as well as for the measurement of important quality parameters. The technology expands the Group's portfolio, which already includes Raman spectroscopy, tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS) and process photometers.
Extensive experience
Blue Ocean Nova was founded in 2015 by Joachim Mannhardt and Stefan Beck, bringing extensive experience in product development in the field of industrial spectroscopy and process analysis measurements to the company. "Endress+Hauser opens the doors to international markets and customers for us," explains Stefan Beck. Joachim Mannhardt adds, "We are convinced that our technology will be an ideal complement to the Endress+Hauser optical portfolio."
Endress+Hauser took effective control of Blue Ocean Nova on October 31, 2017. Both parties have agreed not to disclose details of the transaction. Joachim Mannhardt and Stefan Beck remain on the innovative company's management team. "With this acquisition, we are continuing our strategy to strengthen the portfolio of process analysis measures and, in the future, to support our customers from the laboratory to the process," says Manfred Jagiella.
