At its general meeting in Paris on December 9, the Société des ingénieurs arts & métiers approved the election of Jean-Marie Vigroux as its new president, and the members of the association's executive committee for a three-year term. This vote marks an important milestone in the life of the Société des ingénieurs arts & métiers, which was founded in 1846 before becoming an association governed by the law of 1901. Today, it boasts 34,000 members.
Jean-Marie Vigroux, 62, an engineer from the Bordeaux 1974 graduating class, becomes the 58the President of the Société des ingénieurs arts et métiers. Based in Albi, he founded Sylob in 1991, a company specializing in the design and integration of ERP solutions. Today, Sylob has around a hundred employees, most of whom are shareholders, and opened a subsidiary in Morocco in 2015. Highly involved in the economic development of his region, and President of the Entreprendre Tarn network since 2015, Jean-Marie Vigroux has also been involved in the life of the Société des ingénieurs arts et métiers at local and national level, becoming a member of the board in 2008.
" My aim is to build the Society of tomorrow. In other words, a strong, forward-looking association, useful to each and every one of its 34,000 members, whatever their age or professional background, wherever they are in France or around the world. "declared Jean-Marie Vigroux after his election, adding: " To achieve this, I have set three priorities: working with Ensam's general management and campus managers, we need to energize dialogue with our engineering students and their teachers, modernize and harmonize all our tools to combine rigor in financial management and efficiency in the circulation of information, and finally promote our brand and our values of Fraternity to everyone. "
His election also marks the entry into force of new statutes for the Société des ingénieurs arts et métiers, the third version since its creation in 1846. Validated by the Ministry of the Interior (Journal officiel of August 2, 2017), they aim to update the governing bodies and bring them into line with the transparency requirements expected of any association recognized as being of public utility, which has been the case for the Société des ingénieurs arts et métiers since 1860. Its operations are now based on an eight-member executive committee, responsible for implementing the decisions of a 24-member Board of Directors, of which the Managing Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ensam (or Arts et Métiers ParisTech) and the Chairman of the arts et métiers foundation are ex officio members.
