Structural health monitoring (SHM), or structural health check, aims to maintain and extend the lifespan of infrastructuresof detect and predict failures.
It's an innovative approach to ensure structural integrity which is complementary to the usual NDT.
In fact, SHM is a multidisciplinary science involving :
- NDCswhich provide information on the state of the structure at a given moment;
- but also sensors that can be permanently installed to instrument and monitor structure ;
- from analysis of collected data ;
- as well as modeling…
All industrial sectors are concerned and can rely on SHM, as long as the safety or security of goods and people is at stake: aeronautics, civil engineering, energy, railways... but also the monitoring of production tools!
