The General Assemblies of Afop, the photonics optics trade association, and Cnop, the national optics and photonics committee, voted to merge to become Photonics France, on April 24, 2018. An association under the law of 1901, Photonics France is the French photonics federation. It brings together manufacturers, academics and photonics associations in France.
A single, legitimate national representative for the photonics industry
With over 110 members, including a number of major companies, ETIs, VSEs/SMEs, start-ups, clusters, competitive clusters, learned societies and clubs, the ecosystem that makes up Photonics France is unquestionably representative of the French photonics industry.
The majority of members of the Afop and Cnop associations, as well as state and European partners, were calling for these two bodies to be brought together to provide a single national entry point, greater coherence and shared resources, in order to give fresh impetus to this high-potential technology sector.
Promoting the industry nationally and internationally
In addition to bringing these two organizations together, the new entity's ambition is to help develop and promote the industry at national and European level, to initiate, label and even coordinate projects, to forge closer links with cross-disciplinary and applicative sectors, and to adapt training courses to today's needs and tomorrow's professions.
Represent, coordinate and defend
Photonics France's mission is to act as a well-known, recognized and legitimate contact at national and international level, acting as a trade association to defend the interests of the industry and its members. It coordinates and ensures the coherence of regional, national and international actions, and continues to draw up and implement the "French Photonics Roadmap", with the support of government representatives.
Support and service
Lastly, Photonics France develops and improves services for its members by organizing and leading thematic events, offering trade shows, promoting their know-how and providing economic, technical and regulatory services.
