Creaform, a specialist in portable 3D measurement and non-destructive testing (NDT) solutions, announces that its HandySCAN 3D metrology-grade portable 3D scanner can record the physical attributes of recesses and assemblies for all Boeing commercial aircraft models.
Boeing has published a service letter including a guide to using 3D scanners to measure recesses and assemblies on aircraft. The SmartDENT 3D solution and HandySCAN 3D scanner were used in the process to meet Boeing's quality requirements in the service letter.
"Creaform is proud that leaders such as Boeing are turning to 3D scanning solutions for surface defect inspection. With SmartDENT 3D, our goal is to provide the most accurate damage assessment process possible for our customers, so they can make safe, documented decisions while returning their aircraft to service."says Jérôme Beaumont, NDT Global Sales Manager at Creaform.
SmartDENT 3D is 80 times faster than depth gauge technology. It is the fastest and most reliable aircraft surface damage inspection tool available on the market, according to Creaform. The scanner features accuracy down to 0.025 mm, resolution down to 0.100 mm, high repeatability and a traceable certificate.
With its intuitive design and real-time software visualization, Creaform's NDT solutions guarantee short learning curves and minimal influence of operator experience on result accuracy.
According to the company, with less than a kilo on the scales, the portable scanner is the perfect tool for working in hangars or directly outdoors. Users can easily perform 3D surface inspection on any part of an aircraft on which they would use manual techniques, including on and under the wings.
In addition to their compliance with Boeing's service letter, Creaform's HandySCAN 3D scanners are cited in Airbus' technical equipment manual, more specifically in their structural repair manual.
