Two new models for automated on-line dimensional measurement tasks have been added to Nikon Metrology's latest Nexiv S range of CNC video measurement systems.
The Nexiv CNC video measurement system can automatically measure component dimensions thanks to Nikon's world-renowned optical and image processing technologies. By analyzing the image taken of a component, detecting feature edges at high speed, accurately and repeatedly, it is then possible to quickly measure components with both simple and complex features.
With the growing demand for smaller components with higher performance, as well as the increasing number of electronic components in automobiles, video measurement systems need to measure more components at higher speeds in automated production lines.
The Nexiv VMZ-S series makes this possible by retaining and enhancing the performance of the previous Nexiv VMZ-R series model. Indeed, in November 2020, Nikon launched the first model in the range of new VMZ-S systems, the VMZ-S3020, part of the fourth generation of the Nexiv series. The VMZ-S4540 and VMZ-S6555 now complete this range: they are solutions for medium or large components, or for loading multiple components.
All models in the Nexiv VMZ-S series are now available, offering a choice of machines to suit the customer's application and installation environment. What's more, thanks to the optional Remote Control SDK software, multiple Nexiv systems can be fully integrated into the production line, with remote access and control.
Improved throughput
According to Nikon, Nexiv systems achieve the highest level of measurement accuracy thanks to an exceptional platform featuring high-precision linear encoders. The Nexiv VMZ-S series is capable of capturing and processing images at higher speeds than its predecessor, the Nexiv VMZ-R series, reducing cycle times for measuring components with accuracy or reproducibility.
High-quality images and accurate measurement data
Nikon has designed and optimized an optical system to provide high-quality images and accurate measurement data within the field of view. With a removable LED illumination ring and 8-segment LED illumination, edges of complex shapes can be observed and measured. In addition, a scanner with a scanning speed of 1000 points/sec can acquire the cross-sectional profile of a surface and evaluate relative heights. This meets surface quality and feature measurement needs for a wide variety of samples.
Advanced ergonomics
AutoMeasure's measurement software environment delivers high accuracy, high speed and simple measurement functions. An extensive library of valuable tools is available in a user-friendly interface. For simple components, a help function automates part of the measurement programming process.
The joystick unit used to move the platter and the measuring head have also been redesigned to offer even greater ergonomics for the operator.
Control multiple Nexiv systems remotely
Up to 10 Nexiv systems can be remotely controlled using the optional Remote Control SDK, which enables centralized management and distribution of measurement programs and results from a single location. By controlling the Nexiv and measurement programs from a location remote from the production line, such as a control room or office, manpower can be streamlined and productivity improved.
Automation
With the increasing demand for full production line automation, particularly in the semiconductor sector, the need for automated measurement solutions is also growing. By combining the Nexiv VMZ-S series with wafer loading systems from the same or third-party manufacturers, the wafer loading and feature measurement process can be efficiently automated.
