Cofrac accreditation for temperature measurement in centrifuges

At the service of medical analysis laboratories, Labelians celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. With an inauguration: that of its metrology laboratory at the origin of a new method that makes it possible to guarantee the measurement of the temperature within a rotating centrifuge.

Founded by André Quenot, Labelians invests to diversify its activities and offer medical biology laboratories a wide range of products and services. Initially Consortium of Equipment for Laboratories (CML) the company offers, since 1971, consumable and small laboratory equipment. However, its metrological activity is gaining momentum.

Already recognized for the quality of its performance in measuring physical quantities (speed and time), the Labelians metrology laboratory has set out to find a method to guarantee the measurement of temperature within a rotating centrifuge, regardless of the place occupied by the tube in the bucket, the brand of centrifuge used by the laboratory, and the nature of the sample.

This new method, obtained thanks to the tailor-made development of specific robust sensors, concerns a critical data: temperature. In addition to the centrifugation speed and cycle time, Labelians is thus able to measure the accuracy of the actual acceleration experienced by the sample placed in a centrifuge, allowing laboratories to open the "black box" that this step represented until now. "This method provides the guarantee that the observed centrifuge is able to meet the temperature recommendations. It also makes it possible to control the packaging of the centrifuge: the equipment can be prepared at a given temperature,"explains Christophe Balichard, head of Labelians' metrology laboratory.

An innovative metrology laboratory

For the first time in the world, such a method is considered sufficiently reliable and reproducible to be the subject of a Cofrac accreditation n°1-2479 (scope available on www.cofrac.fr). At stake: significant improvement in the quality, reliability and repeatability of analysis results.

An innovation that will also serve centrifuge manufacturers by allowing them to improve the performance of their machines and their maintenance.

"By placing itself at the heart of the regulatory, user and manufacturer triptych, Labelians confirms its position as a critical and essential player in the partnership chain of the diagnostic system, whose importance has been largely highlighted by the Covid 19 pandemic,"said Christophe Balichard and Bruno Artiglieri, Sales Director France.

The metrology laboratory is already working on new projects. In progress: work on pipette calibration. To innovate, it relies on its network of suppliers and surrounds itself with partners. Partners who can in particular be start-ups that it is able to accommodate in its new and modern premises within the head office located in Nemours, Seine-et-Marne.

A fire destroyed all offices and warehouses in October 2010. Since then, the company's key word has been "resilience". This event with a strong local impact did not affect the ambitions of the company, its leaders and its teams. After the opening of a logistics center in January 2011 in Pannes, in the Loiret, a new head office, located at the same address as the previous one, was inaugurated in 2017. CML grew through external growth and the CML-ID group decided to serve the medical biology laboratory market under the Labelians brand.
