Sick's new PBS plus pressure sensor combines in a single device a transducer for measuring switching thresholds, a display, logic and Industry 4.0 connectivity via IO-Link.
This multifunctional sensor is used to monitor hydraulic and pneumatic systems as well as many different production processes, from the automotive industry to machining machines. The PBS plus requires no maintenance. Thanks to the intelligent design of the process connection technology as well as switchable analog and digital outputs, it can be used in a very wide range of applications. It also offers measurement ranges suitable for hydrostatic level measurement.
Compared to its predecessor – the PBS – the PBS plus covers wider measuring ranges, from 0 to 1,000 bar. The new pressure sensor achieves a remarkable measurement accuracy of ≤ ± 0.5% and a non-linearity of ≤ ± 0.25% in accordance with IEC 61298-2. It offers a response time of ≤ 5ms. In addition, the optional analog output can be scaled, i.e. configured for the actually required measurement range. This allows the user to set process values and switching thresholds even more precisely. The PBS plus therefore reliably meets the essential technical requirements of the market for high-performance pressure sensors.
More versatility with fewer variations
The PBS plus has been designed from start to finish for flexibility and therefore versatility. This can be seen first of all in the technology of process fittings: four standard fittings, combinable with many adapters, make it possible to solve almost all installation configurations.
In addition, the optional analog output of the PBS plus can be switched to current output or voltage output and both switching outputs can be configured in PNP or NPN. In addition, the IO-Link communication interface – and therefore Industry 4.0 connectivity – is integrated into the sensor as standard. This multifunctional sensor concept offers customers another advantage: fewer variants and therefore faster availability and simplified storage.
Improved process reliability
The PBS offers optimum availability even in harsh application conditions: thanks to the fully welded, hermetically sealed and corrosion-resistant stainless steel measuring chambers, as well as the absence of moving and therefore fatigue-prone parts, it is completely maintenance-free. In addition, its rugged housing with IP 65 and IP67 protection rating as well as high overload protection protect the sensor from external or process-related impacts.
The pressure sensor provides a series of diagnostic data via IO-Link for the purpose of maintaining machines or plants. It continuously monitors the temperature of the electronics and the built-in logic signals when the configured minimum or maximum values are reached. At the same time, the PBS plus checks the hydraulic and pneumatic systems for possible pressure spikes. The sensor supply voltage is also continuously recorded. This makes pbS more of a leading data provider for condition and predictive maintenance.
It is also suitable for highly viscous media
PBS plus can be used wherever pressures need to be measured, controlled or monitored in hydraulic or pneumatic systems and in a wide variety of production processes. As a pressure and level sensor, it can also be used with highly viscous fluids: variants with an flush membrane are available to measure these fluids. This avoids erroneous measurement results due to clogging or gluing the sensor – the functionality of the PBS plus is retained without maintenance costs.
Its versatility and functionality make sick's PBS plus the intelligent pressure sensor for factory automation.
