Rohde & Schwarz has upgraded its R&S CMP200 series radio communications tester with a new option for testing small cells. This solution has been validated by Qualcomm Technologies. It is now supported by its Qualcomm Development Acceleration Resource Toolkit (QDART) for Small Cells software. Small cell infrastructure manufacturers who integrate the Qualcomm FSM100 5G RAN platform into their products can now rest assured that the R&S CMP200 tester meets all test requirements in both the development and production phases.
Rohde & Schwarz, a leading supplier of test and measurement equipment for wireless communications applications, today announced that the new small cell test option for its R&S CMP200 series radio communications tester has been validated by Qualcomm Technologies. Integrators of small cell infrastructure equipment operating in the millimeter-wave frequency range (FR2) can now use the QDART for Small Cells software. This enables them to benefit from the unrivalled features of the R&S CMP200 tester, such as its ultra-fast measurement speed and its ability to test several DUTs in parallel.
Small cells offer mobile communication operators the possibility of increasing the capacity of existing wireless networks. They also meet the increased data transfer requirements of 5G applications. They can be used in public and private networks deployed inside buildings or in outdoor environments. These advantages are driving growth in demand for small cell infrastructure. Qualcomm's FSM100 5G RAN platform has been adopted by many manufacturers and cellular infrastructure providers around the world due to its scalability and cost-effectiveness. Its form factor and power level are ideally suited to the densification requirements of both indoor and outdoor 5G networks, and to the rapid transition of networks to 5G.
The R&S CMP200 solution enables signal-free testing of RF parameters of 5G communication signals operating at millimeter-wave (mmWave) frequencies. It combines the functions of a vector signal analyzer and an arbitrary signal generator in a single instrument. This integrated, compact solution can be adapted to suit application requirements, thanks to the possibility of using up to three remote radio heads from the R&S CMPHEAD30 series. These provide up- and down-conversion of signals to the FR2 band of 5G frequencies. The use of this independent one-piece tester, combined with the R&S CMPHEAD30 remote radio heads, reduces the length of RF cables and thus optimizes their influence during radiated emission tests. This approach makes it possible to test not only complete devices operating in the FR2 frequency band, but also RF integrated circuits comprising their two RF interfaces (intermediate frequency and millimeter wave).
The R&S CMP200 tester is suitable for testing equipment in both R&D and production. With new functionality for small-cell testing and support for QDART for Small Cells software, the R&S CMP200 test platform is designed to be a scalable solution, guaranteeing OEMs long-term investment protection.
