The Prosonic Flow W 400 therefore combines proven ultrasonic measurement technology with the unique advantages of the Endress+Hauser Proline series of devices, thus meeting multiple requirements of today's plant operators: long-term profitability, complete process monitoring and maximum freedom when planning measuring points.
Clamp-On's non-intrusive measurement method, in which ultrasonic sensors are mounted directly on the pipe, makes it possible to safely measure even corrosive, abrasive and toxic fluids, regardless of their conductivity or pressure.
This makes the Prosonic Flow W 400 ideal for monitoring and controlling many processes. Since there is no need to open the pipe, Clamp-On flow sensors can be installed at any time, for example on very large pressure pipes with a diameter of up to 4 meters, such as those found in the energy and power plant sector.
Other applications requiring flexible adaptations concern public services, such as water supply.
Such examples illustrate the versatility of the Application Capabilities of the Prosonic Flow W 400: quantity and volume measurement, totalization and balancing, process monitoring, verification of previously installed flow meters and detection of leaks in a pipeline. Robust ultrasonic sensors made of stainless steel and with IP68 protection rating (type 6P) allow for long-term operation requiring little maintenance. They can therefore be used even in difficult process and environmental conditions. They can be used at process temperatures between -40 and +130 °C (-40 and +266 °F). The Prosonic Flow W 400 is ideal for applications in non-ex areas.
Web server – easy to use and install on site
The Proline 400 transmitter includes a web server as standard. With a standard Ethernet cable and laptop – or wireless via WLAN – users have direct access to all diagnostic, configuration and device data without additional software or hardware. This makes it possible to set up a measurement point in a targeted way and save time during commissioning, maintenance and servicing. During installation, the transmitter/control tool screen also indicates the current quality of the measurement (good – acceptable – bad) so that the sensor position can be adjusted if necessary.
Flow DC function for maximum performance even in the event of a disturbed flow
Pipe systems in industry typically feature various pipe fittings and elbows that disrupt the flow profile and, with it, the accuracy of an ultrasonic measurement. The Prosonic Flow W 400 is available as an option with the unique Flow DC function with which the effects of flow disturbance on the measurement signal can be detected and compensated by the calculation. This makes it possible to maintain the specified measurement accuracy even with significantly reduced straight lengths, for example from 15 DN to 2 DN. This means maximum flexibility for planners and users who want to equip or re-equip systems with Clamp-On flow meters.
Heartbeat Technology – for maximum operational safety
Heartbeat Technology is another highlight. This test function, integrated into all Endress+Hauser Proline measuring devices, enables permanent self-diagnosis with the highest diagnostic coverage (>95%) as well as traceable verification of the device during operation. Heartbeat Technology also includes a "Heartbeat Sensor Integrity" test function to detect changes in the measurement electronics and/or sensor caused by environmental conditions or extreme processes. Heartbeat Technology reduces risk in a system and increases its reliability and availability.
It adapts to any type of pipes
The Prosonic Flow W 400 can be mounted on a wide variety of pipe types and materials: on metal pipes (such as steel or cast iron pipes), plastic pipes, glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP) pipes or composite pipes with or without coating. A maintenance-free coupling pad ensures optimal sound transmission between the sensor surface and the hose. The resulting high and constant signal strength ensures stable measurement results and high measurement performance for many years. Depending on the size of the line, the fluid and the material of the pipe, the sensors come with different ultrasonic frequencies (0.3 – 0.5 – 1- 2 – 5 MHz) so that users can also count on maximum signal quality and therefore on accuracy and repeatability.
