The information dates back to March 31st, but it had eluded us... Mettler-Toledo has acquired the Eagle line of X-ray online food control equipment from Smiths. Smiths is divesting an industrial business to focus on its core business, namely personal safety (its metal-detection gantries on people are present at many airports). Mettler-Toledo, best known for its weighing and chemical analysis activities, is strengthening its product inspection sector on production lines (metal detection, X-ray contaminants).
However, Mettler-Toledo will not integrate the new activity, at least initially. It will continue separately, under the Eagle brand.
