As every year at the same time, the Simtec (Union of Measurement, Testing and Conversion of Energy in the field of Electronics) presented the results of the French electronic instrumentation market. In 2012, the market grew by 5.1%, a good figure considering that the market had already grown strongly in 2011 (up 9.4%) 2010 (up 7.2%). It should be noted that the statistics compiled by Simtec are based on the figures given by union members and it is estimated that the figures obtained represent about 80% of the market. For 2012, the cumulative sales of Simtec members represented a turnover of approximately 333 million euros.
"This good result can be explained by the fact that many of our members have a strong presence in the most promising markets at the moment, in this case aeronautics and defence, radio communications (the arrival of 4G) and broadband (100 Gbps) and finally research," commentsBenoît Neel, President of Simtec.
Simtec strives to establish figures for different categories of instruments. This does not pose any difficulties for instruments where the supply is large. On the other hand, when we are interested in instruments where the supply is concentrated (card testers, oscilloscopes, etc.), it is more difficult because the members do not want to give indications that would help their competitors. Among the categories of instruments listed are modular instruments (and associated software), which accounted for a sales volume of 51.8 million euros in 2012, a figure that is stagnating compared to the previous year.
Another figure is that the services (maintenance, training, etc.) associated with instrumentation account for 36% of the profession's turnover. They accounted for 35% in 2011 and 32% in 2010...
