By integrating Digital Surf's MountainsMap analytics software, Confovis' new gantry system provides accurate measurements and analyses of the surface of the joint ranges in a very short time. This is consistent with the Daimler MBN 31 007-07 standard used in the automotive industry.
The texture of the striated structures, printed on the joint spans of trees, is paramount. It influences the characteristics of fluid flow at the contact area between the sealing surface and the lip seals (SPI joint). It also has a major impact on the seal's effectiveness and sealing. The structures are made up of continuous or interrupted streaks comparable to threading, oriented perpendicular to the axis, or very slightly inclined a few minutes of arc. For structures with a higher number of streaks, the angles may be wider. In addition, macros and micro structures at more or less high spatial frequencies are detected. In accordance with the Daimler standard, the streaks are measured with 72 2-millimetre profiles using a rotation axis.
The measured data is then analyzed in accordance with the second-generation optimized evaluation algorithms developed by Daimler. The Confovis gantry system allows a very high-speed scan of a full surface, in one shot and not one point. As a result, the processing time for this application is significantly reduced. Confovis' gantry system incorporates high-quality Nikon microscope components. Each 2mm profile is measured in one sequence using the built-in Nikon lens with a 2.15mm x 1.4mm field of view.
Stitching, a complex process, is no longer necessary. The high-resolution measurement, below the nanometer, is then obtained with a piezoelectric actuator for Z positioning. Once the measurement has been acquired, MountainsMap automatically generates an analysis report in accordance with Daimler MBN 31 007-07. In this context, the software runs the second-generation driver twist analysis algorithm according to Mercedes-Benz's license.
"The Confovis gantry system used with MountainsMap speeds up twist analysis. In 5 minutes, it measures conductive structures with a proven correlation rate of 99% with touch systems and an analysis report is automatically generated," says Frank Thielert, CEO of Confovis. "The automotive component manufacturers that use this system are achieving reliable, fast and cost-effective results." "Thanks to the licensing agreement with Mercedes-Benz, MountainsMap is able to provide an automatic twist analysis report in accordance with MBN 31 007-07," said François Blateyron, Digital Surf's Chief Operating Officer.
