Conceived and written by Robert Legendre, one of the best specialists in industrial maintenance in France for the past 25 years, this book of more than 700 pages provides a concrete and practical answer to the main technical concerns in mechanical maintenance.
The Maintenance Technical Memento is the product of the author's own knowledge and experience in a large number of factories, of the technical opinion of maintenance managers but also of Anglo-Saxon technical documentation that exists across the Channel and across the Atlantic.
The work is organized in two main parts
First part (358 pages): analysis of the causes and remedies for the different types of mechanical failures
- An extrinsic failure has a cause which is specific to an organ, to a function, to a product where it appears; this cause is not due to the normal degradation of an organ. The Memento provides help in finding the causes and remedies in the most common cases.
- The scattered failures have a cause which is general to several organs, or several functions, or several products where they appear. It is a question of finding a point in common with similar failures. This common point is very often one or more rules of the art not respected. The Memento presents 75 rules of the art ; it is the result of a compilation spanning 15 years.
- Intrinsic failure causes normal organ wear or degradation. In general, it requires the replacement of the organ. Outages are avoided by preventative maintenance. The Mémento presents 109 standards and all aspects of non-destructive testing.
Second part (345 pages): practical documentation
- Safety rules.
- The different specific techniques in mechanics.
- Laws and values in mechanics and physics.
- The main codifications and standards.
- The most common materials and their constraints.
Author
Engineer training Ensam (Arts & Métiers), Robert Legendre worked in design, production and maintenance in factories in France, England, United States and Belgium and in this context he also carried out productivity audits in Germany, Sweden, Scotland and Mexico. After these operational experiences Robert Legendre then worked as a maintenance consulting engineer for more than 25 years as an employee, director of a firm and then on his own. As a result, it has been involved in around 350 factories in various industries: heavy machinery, automobile, chemicals, steel, stationery, glassmaking, mechanics, various transformations, foundry, refinery, agro-food, various. During the last 10 years, interventions have been mainly focused on preventive maintenance and reliability, with the production of booklets of best practice in maintenance, 5,000 copies sold in France, Belgium, Switzerland and China.
This book is the essential tool for any manager, supervisor or maintenance technician as well as for any study manager.
