Faro Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: FARO), the world's leading partner in 3D measurement, imaging and implementation technology, has announced the launch of FARO CAM2 SmartInspect 1.2. This new software offers a complete metrology solution for basic geometric measurements without CAD for tracker lasers and measuring arms.

This launch demonstrates FARO's ongoing quest to simplify 3D measurement tasks for users. CAM2 SmartInspect 1.2 now has an interface with FARO's Laser Tracker, providing a simple and efficient solution for users seeking the precision and high measurement volume provided by tracker lasers, without the complexity of CAD metrology software.

CAM2 SmartInspect 1.2 has been optimized to work on all touchscreen or Touchpads computers based on Microsoft Windows™ technology, giving users a new way to interact with measurement devices and inspection data. The addition of a touch feature makes it the ideal software for fully mobile measurement applications and the first portable software for tracking lasers and measuring arms on the market.

"SmartInspect 1.2 is the simplest and most intuitive software on the market for basic geometric measurements,"says Kathleen J. Hall, EXECUTIVE director of FARO America. It increases mobility, eliminates complexity and allows neophytes to start measuring quickly, so your FARO Laser Tracker, FaroArm or FARO Gage provide you with an immediate return on investment ».

Another new feature is the Move Device™ which optimizes inspection of large parts, especially when a repositioning of the frequent measuring device is required. Users can move their device during measurement and measure their part at different positions. As the right match with the target is quickly identified, the time it takes to reposition (by "jump-sheep") the arm or laser tracker is reduced and the error potential greatly reduced.

Other innovations include voice control and audio feedback. The ability to give instructions by voice command allows the user to use hands-free and results in increased measurement time savings and mobility. The audio feedback function allows real-time transmission of information, alerting the user when a bad measurement has been taken or when the laser tracker beam has been interrupted.
