The aim of this technical guide of the Collège Français de Metrology (CFM) is to help metrologists and users of measuring instruments to understand the concept of metrological traceability defined in the third edition of the Vocabular International Metrology (VIM) and to provide elements for its implementation within companies when this traceability is difficult to obtain or achieve.
The traceability requirement applies to all measurable sizes. There are many cases of sensitive traceability to IS units or other references in the industry.
Often, the connection to national references is not materialized by an identified chain of standards, such as electricity, temperature, chemical analysis, physical and chemical property...
This guide was produced as part of a working group of the French College of Metrology composed of twelve industrialists.
