Keyence's new GT2 series pen-type sensor head performs absolute measurements with an accuracy of 1m. Their simplicity of installation, thanks in particular to a wide range of accessories, is intended for all kinds of industrial control applications.

The GT2 contact sensor is greatly refined to take the form of a pen. Integrated into a cylinder just 8 mm in diameter, it can now slip into the most demanding control areas. By refining, this innovative sensor does not part with the assets that have made the reputation of the GT2 series. Scale Shot System II, the second generation of Keyence's proprietary measurement system, implements a high-performance receiver, transmitter and processor that makes absolute measurement possible with high accuracy. This technology uses a high-resolution CMOS sensor that scans the glass ladder embedded in the fine body of the sensor head at high speed. Thanks to the different reasons for graduation engraved on the scale, this principle of detection, which constitutes a world first, ensures an absolute measure of position while freeing itself from the problems encountered by conventional methods. Unlike the pulse counting method, Scale Shot System II eliminates error in tracking impact measurements and adjusting zero before any operation. And unlike the differential transformer method, accuracy is stable throughout the measurement range and measurements are insensitive to temperature variations. This gives the pen-type GT2 sensor absolute measurement characteristics unmatched in a small footprint.

The sensor head has no welds, the relay connector and the cable (composed of extremely oil-resistant polyurethane) meet the requirements of the NEMA Type 13 and IP67G protection standards. In addition, the rigid linear ball bearings guarantee the stem a long lifespan and up to 100 million detections. As a result, maintenance and replacement costs are significantly reduced.

Keyence also greatly facilitates the implementation of GT2 sensors by enriching its range of amplifiers with a multi-head model on which 5 sensors can be connected. Up to 15 sensor heads connected to 3 amplifiers can be connected simultaneously for the easy realization of multi-point measurement systems: measurements of the diameter of a tree or controls of plane, tilt, warping, assemblies, etc. Communication units compatible with a wide variety of industrial standards allow for the creation of larger systems.
