Flir Systems has launched flIR C2, the first multi-function handheld thermal imaging camera designed to help building professionals identify invisible heat releases and clearly locate problems such as energy loss sources, signs of structural failure, plumbing problems and others.
Thanks to its thin, compact shape, the C2 fits easily in a pocket, making it immediately operational to detect invisible defects in buildings and tell customers where potential problems are. With dimensions of 125 × 80 × 24 mm and a weight of 130 g, the C2 offers a sleek profile.
Featuring the manufacturer's patented MSX function (real-time image enhancement) and a bright, easy-to-use touchscreen with self-orientation, the camera creates thermal images to more easily locate problems. MSX adds essential details (captured by the built-in visible camera) to the C2's thermal images, so that the numbers, letters, textures and other features appear clearly on the thermal image without diminishing the quality.
Equipped with a high-sensitivity detector with a resolution of 4,800 pixels, the C2 captures and displays subtle thermal variations and small temperature differences useful for building applications, and produces images with a wide field of view of 41 degrees. In addition, the C2 incorporates a flash and working lamp that improve lighting in dark areas of buildings under inspection. The additional lighting also allows the C2 to make brighter visible photographs, along with thermal images.
Thanks to an immediate temperature reading, the C2 allows, at the touch of a button, to record radiometric JPEGs. The images are then downloadable using the free Flir Tools software, which allows the user to adjust thermal image levels, isolate and add temperature measurements, modify color palettes and create compelling reports.
"C2 is not just a practical tool to increase efficiency and detect every problem in all circumstances. It is also used to check the quality of repairs performed for customers, says Rickard Lindvall, Vice President of Flir and General Manager of the professional Flir Instrument Industry. By offering the C2 for less than 700 euros, we hope to make this powerful tool accessible to a greater number of professionals who may need it, whether they are building experts, subcontractors, energy controllers, second-mount professionals, inspectors, roofers, air conditioning technicians or plumbers. »
The Flir C2 will be available from FLIR partners in early March 2015.
