MSC software corporation announces that e-Xstream engineering's Digimat-VA (Virtual Allowables) platform has been touted as a "major innovation in composite materials manufacturing" by the world's leading composite materials industrial group (Jec Composites). For the past 14 years, Jec's awards have symbolized excellence in composite-based manufacturing. They have already recognized more than 150 companies and 350 partners for their contributions to improving composite technology and its added value for end-users.
Digimat-VA ("Virtual Allowables") allows engineers to virtually compare various composite materials before starting a lengthy process involving physically eligible. Digimat-VA now makes it easy to generate hundreds or thousands of coupon simulations. Understanding composite variability reinforces confidence in design values. By generating virtual allowables, engineers can now begin component design in parallel with the physically eligible campaign. In addition, they can explore the sensitivity of materials to changes in parameters and thus better understand the performance of composites.
The jury based its decision on Digimat's ability to provide engineers with accurate and complete descriptions of the local behaviour of composites. This knowledge gives them the confidence to take full advantage of the potential of composites to replace metals, thanks to their superior lightness at equal strength. The jury also wanted to reward the quality of Digimat's integration into existing design processes, as well as its role as a bridge between manufacturing processes and structural analysis.
"To understand and characterize composites and the generation of eligible people, it is necessary to perform a significant number of physical coupon tests. This process is costly and, most importantly, time-time-delayed," said Roger Assaker, Chief Material Strategist and P.-D. G.of e-Xstream engineering, a subsidiary of MSC Software. "To reduce delays and costs, we have developed Digimat-VA, a vertical Digimat solution designed to implement virtual test campaigns to generate and execute thousands of coupon analyses, post-process results and validate eligible ones."
