LMI's new Gocator 2880 stand-alone laser sensor for a two-camera system can scan large surfaces with irregular shapes and textures. The installation of two cameras with different viewing angles makes it possible to avoid shadow zones created by protruding parts of the inspected material. The new sensor offers a very wide field of vision, as well as numerous measurement possibilities. Data acquisition from cross-sections of inspected parts and surfaces is fast and complete. This sequence of cross-sections produces a 3D point cloud representing the object in its entirety, enabling highly accurate volumetric measurements.
This is the first model for a dual-camera system in LMI's Gocator series of intelligent 3D laser sensors. It offers a field of view of 390 mm - 1260 mm, with a measuring range of 800 mm. On the other hand, the Gocator 2880 multiple sensors can be seamlessly connected to each other to achieve wider fields of view. The megapixel sensor (1280 points / profile) provides a complete profile at a rate of up to 980 Hz. The integrated measurement tool converts 3D data into real-time measurements, indicating whether the object is accepted or rejected. Once the object has been scanned, the results can be instantly visualized for precise measurements, inspection tasks or fine-tuning of tolerance rates.
The new sensor uses Gocatore 4.1 firmware. This enhances process optimization with the addition of powerful filters that remove noise and outliers supplied by the sensor. It also includes a material selection function for extremely accurate results on objects with complex surfaces, and a new Countersunk Hole tool for measuring center point, depth, outside diameter, angle, etc.
The Gocator 2880 uses a Gigabit Ethernet interface and PLC connectivity. It can easily be integrated into production units for inspection and control. The IP67 industrial enclosure and compact 500 mm footprint make it ideal for quality control, even in harsh industrial environments. The Gocator's integrated graphical user interface (GUI) can be used with all web browsers and computer systems, making it easy to configure operating parameters and measurement tools.
