LMI's new Gocator 2880 standalone laser sensor for a dual camera system can scan large surfaces with irregular shapes and textures. The installation of two cameras at different viewing angles allows to bypass the shadow areas created by the protruding parts of the inspected material. The new sensor offers a very large field of view as well as numerous measurement possibilities. The acquisition of data collected during cross-sections of the parts and surfaces inspected is fast and complete. This series of transverse sections makes it possible to obtain a 3D point cloud representing the object in its entirety and thus to carry out very precise volumetric measurements.
This is the first model for a dual camera system in LMI's Gocator 3D smart laser sensor series. It offers a field of view of 390mm - 1260mm with a measuring range of 800mm. On the other hand, multiple Gocator 2880 sensors can be seamlessly connected to each other in order to achieve wider fields of view. The mega-pixel sensor (1280 points / profile) provides a full profile at a rate of up to 980 Hz. The built-in measurement tool converts 3D data into real-time measurements indicating whether the object is accepted or rejected. After scanning the object, the results can be viewed instantly to perform precise measurements, inspection tasks or fine-tune tolerance rates.
The new sensor uses Gocatore 4.1 firmware. This improves the optimization of the process with the addition of efficient filters which suppress the noise and the outliers supplied by the sensor. It also includes a hardware selection feature to get extremely precise results for objects with complex surfaces, and a new Countersunk Hole tool to measure center point, depth, outside diameter, angle, and more.
The Gocator 2880 uses a Gigabit Ethernet interface and PLC connectivity. It can easily be integrated into production units for inspection and control. The industrial IP67 enclosure and compact 500mm footprint make it an ideal quality control solution even in harsh industrial environments. The graphical interface (GUI) integrated into the Gocator can be used with all web browsers and computer systems, and thus allows easy configuration of user parameters and measurement tools.
