In August, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the US national metrology agency, began a collaboration with Argolight, an innovative young company based in the Bordeaux region. NIST has acquired several samples of Argolight's stable fluorescence technology to test various applications of critical biological systems. This partnership with a major government agency is helping to improve the reproducibility of optical microscopy measurements, and supports the young French start-up's desire to expand into the USA.
On August 24, 2015, Argolight, a young French start-up, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the US national metrology agency, entered into a collaboration through the purchase of several samples of Argolight's patented stable fluorescence technology. The aim is to test whether this innovative technology can help meet current standardization requirements for fluorescence microscopy systems.
In addition to its day-to-day use in research, fluorescence is a major technology in many diagnostics and screening techniques in the biological and pharmaceutical fields, notably genetic screening (FISH) or viral screening (ELISA), hence the importance of being able to extract reliable and comparable results.
This partnership follows more than a year of exchanges between NIST and Argolight, and comes after several sales contracts with the US health agency, the National Institutes of Health (NIH). US interest in this high value-added technology supports the strategy of Argolight, which is already active internationally, and plans to strengthen its presence in the USA in 2016 following its next round of funding.
