The Thomson-Reuters ranking is based on "the 25 public institutions that contribute most to the advancement of science and technology worldwide", writes Reuters. The CEA leads the ranking, with the CNRS in 5th place.e and Inserm 10e worldwide organization.
This ranking is based on an integration of data relating to intellectual property, the number of patents and publications indexed in the Thomson Reuters platform database over the last 8 years.
The top 25 public organizations listed are ranked according to 10 criteria, including the total number of publications listed, the percentage of publications including at least one co-author affiliated with a private entity, the volume of patents registered with WIPO, the "success" rate of patents (their application rate), the percentage of patent filings covering the USA, Europe and Japan, or the patent citation rate (Patent citation Index).
Note: Fraunhofer (Germany) ranks 2eJapan's Science and Technology Agency 3eHealth & Human Services (HHS), the subsidiary of the NIH and CDC in charge of industrial property, ranks 4th.e in this ranking
