Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence has signed a renewal of its innovation partnership with the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team. The three-year agreement extends the relationship between the two companies to a decade. Red Bull Racing will continue to use Hexagon's measurement technologies in its factory and on the racetrack.
Typically, a vehicle comprises around 100,000 parts, and the team makes up to 30,000 design changes in a single season. As a result, Red Bull Racing's quality assurance department is under constant pressure from the factory's design and development teams. The latter use portable measurement systems to guarantee the precision of vehicle configuration during weekend races.
" We have extremely tight deadlines, but we can't sacrifice quality in the manufacture of components or in the fitting of vehicles on the racetrack.notes Chris Charnley, Quality Manager at Red Bull Racing. Hexagon's technologies enable us to carry out inspection tasks quickly, while giving us the certainty that the results are reliable. "
Al Peasland, Director of Technical Partnerships at Red Bull Racing, adds: " The whole Formula 1 business revolves around measurement, analysis and continuous improvement. The speed and assurance that Hexagon brings us are directly linked to the performance and reliability of our equipment - reliability comes from quality. "
The contract, which runs until the end of 2018, consolidates the close relationship between the two companies and will continue the collaborative approach to innovation. As users of Hexagon products and services, Red Bull Racing engineers are involved in product R&D. Their high standards have prompted Hexagon to develop new technologies and implement new ways of working.
" Our relationship with Red Bull Racing is a partnership in the strictest sense of the word.observes Norbert Hanke, President and CEO of Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence. We have an ongoing exchange of information and ideas, and the relationship to date has been very fruitful for both parties. In our ten years together, we've been driven to push the boundaries, just like Red Bull Racing, and I'm delighted that this partnership of innovation will continue, leading to a promising new Formula 1 season.
