Hexagon AB announced the acquisition of Aicon 3D Systems on March 31, a leading supplier of contactless optical and portable 3D measurement systems for industrial manufacturing.

Founded in 1990 and based in Braunschweig, Germany, Aicon has been meeting the metrological needs of renowned car manufacturers as well as companies in the fields of aeronautics, shipbuilding, renewable energy and mechanical engineering for more than 25 years. Its technology portfolio includes three-dimensional measurement machines for universal applications and specialized 3D optical measurement systems, enabling efficient, high-precision quality tracking and control in production.

With more than 140 employees, Aicon has a direct presence in Germany and subsidiaries in China and Korea, Japan and the United States, as well as a global network of distributors supported by its local staff.

"Aicon is a well-known brand with development teams with a high level of basic technical expertise, and its line of scanners fits perfectly into Hexagon,"said Ola Rollén, President and CEO of Hexagon. We also see opportunities for an international expansion of AICON's broader portfolio through Hexagon's global network. »

"Joining Hexagon offers a great opportunity to distribute our quality AICON scanner products to a wide customer base around the world," said Carl-Thomas Schneider and Werner Bsemann, both CEOs of Aicon 3D Systems.

Aicon will be consolidated by global integration from April. The company achieved a turnover of around EUR 19 million in 2015.
