This book is a student-friendly introduction to the philosophy of science. It summarizes the current state of knowledge, presenting the various concepts and offering an assessment of the findings, as well as the major questions still open.
This third, completely revised edition aims to contribute to the development of a philosophy of nature that takes scientific theories into account.
The first part of the book takes stock of the debate between logical empiricism and its critics. It aims to demonstrate that it is possible to maintain a version of scientific realism sufficient to ground the project within a metaphysics of nature.
The second part develops this approach by presenting the main questions of the metaphysics of nature raised by modern theories of fundamental physics (classical mechanics, classical electrodynamics, relativistic physics and quantum physics).
Each chapter contains a teaching aid with summary, test questions and work suggestions, and the book is completed with a glossary and comprehensive bibliography.
